Romans

Paul’s letter to the Roman church is deep, to say the least. It is weighted with theology and focused on a single purpose: the gospel. At this point in his life, Paul is a seasoned leader and experienced traveler. He has seen men and women seek salvation from sculpted metal, chiseled stone, and carved blocks of wood. He has watched people put their energy and hope into their ability to follow rules and regulations. Above all this, Paul has seen—and been transformed—by Jesus. He is his own example of salvation and change due to the gospel of Jesus, and, as a response to that, he has dedicated his life to helping others understand how to put down their assumptions, paradigms, and rituals in order to take up the way and likeness of Jesus in their own lives.

Because of the depth of the theology and the importance of the gospel, Second Mile is going to invest time in Romans. Paul wrote that he was “not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then the Gentile,” and we want to establish that same sentiment in the daily lives of the community of believers that is Second Mile.
