Second Mile

Through the teaching on the book of James, Chad used the metaphor of our church jumping off the cliff in full surrender to obey whatever God would have us do. There were several points to what it would take to truly jump off the cliff. Pray for our church through each of the listed areas. Please get out the notes you took for the Cliff Jumping message (March 13, 2011), review what you wrote down, and ask God to give you insight in each area as you pray for Second Mile.

• Pray that as a church we will have consistency in our exclusive pursuit of Jesus. James 1:1-12
• Ask God to give us ownership in embracing humility and repenting of our sin. Pray against entitlement, a spirit of license to abuse God’s grace, and legalistic desires to steal away freedom. James 1:9-18
• Pray that corporately and individually we will implant God’s word in our lives. James 1:19-27
• Ask the Spirit to continue to teach us and move us to action in the area of showing mercy and meeting the needs of those in distress. James 2:1-13
• Ask God to empower us to practice a genuine faith, not superficial faith, that we would love in action. James 2:14-26
• Are you engaging in conversation? “Our speech becomes antiseptic to the human soul followed/proved by our transformed lives.” James 3:1-12
• Ask God to give us wisdom for effective evangelism. Pray that many in our church would rise up with the spiritual gift of evangelism. Pray that we would actively, lovingly share our faith. James 3:13-43
• Ask God for a reminder of our condition without the sacrifice of Jesus and the grace of God. Jesus, please give us expected faithfulness and willingness to grieve our sin. James 4:1-12
• As a church we need the Spirit to continue to move in us a willingness to use our possessions to serve and advance God’s kingdom with the message of the gospel. We do this because Jesus is worth it! James 4:13-5:6
• Pray that God would develop patience within our body. Ask God to establish our hearts, that we would understand and embrace that patience is developed through suffering. James 5:7-11
• God, teach our church to PRAY! Through suffering pray, through joy worship, in sickness ask for prayer.
• Petition God on behalf of Second Mile that we will be a body that fights the fight of faith and that we will pursue holiness. We must believe that there is truth, that we remain vulnerable, that perseverance is proof of our faith, and that our security is found in God, that He has called us to care for the orphan, the immigrant, the widow, the poor.

Pray for the body of Second Mile as the Holy Spirit leads you. Together in unity we ask that we would be a church that seeks to make His name famous in our city and among the nations!
