Leadership

Second Mile is led by paid elders, volunteer elders, and paid staff. Biblically, the words “pastor” and “elder” are the same. The elders work as a team of communal leaders to oversee the church as a whole while also individually focusing on various areas.

Second Mile has different levels of leadership set up to reflect what the Bible says about how a church should be governed and to keep our community healthy, active, missional, and growing.

The elders are men who meet the qualifications for leadership found in the Bible. They take on the task of casting vision, making community decisions, carrying out church discipline, shepherding members, and teaching the church. Some elders fill roles as paid staff, while others serve as volunteers.

Staff members are supported financially by Second Mile so they can devote their time to meet specific needs in the church. Staff members are not required to be elders.
